One broken heart praying for another.

A couple months ago I told you about a friend of mine who suffering from profound grief. She was just enjoying life, celebrating a wonderful life and many great things happening, when she suddenly lost a dear loved one. Quite literally, in the beat of a heart, her world came crashing down around her. My heart continues to break for her.

Grief is such a difficult emotion. We all wish there were some magic words to take the pain away. Something to say to make sense of a terrible loss. Some way to ease the pain. But of course, there isn’t. The only thing that helps to heal grief is time. And for some losses, it takes a lot of time. Weeks, months or even years sometimes need to pass before healing takes place. And my poor friend is just beginning to heal. She is still deep in her grief.

Grief is a high price to pay. But, the more we love someone, the more difficult they are to lose. If we are lucky enough to know great love, we take the chance of suffering great loss. So tonight, I am praying for all those out there who are dealing with grief. Whether it is a recent loss or one that happened years ago, I pray that they find peace.

Dear God,
We know that when our loved ones leave us here, they are headed to join you. We know that by believing in You, we will join them. We rely on our faith to get us through our losses, but still our heart aches. A broken heart that feels like it will never heal. Please let those in mourning to feel your love around them.
Amen.
